About Our Breeding Sanctuary
Over 20 years ago, our passion for tortoises began when we acquired our first two Aldabra tortoises. Several other adult Giant Aldabra tortoises were purchased over the following years. Some were rescued from poor living conditions, being held in captivity in tiny 2-3sqm enclosures with no room to move and being fed a poor diet. We relocated them to our sanctuary, in their new custom built enclosures. As the years went by, more were given the same opportunity, with some being rescued and some generously donated. We now have just shy of three acres dedicated to our tortoises.

The Giant Aldabra tortoise and the beautiful Radiata tortoise were introduced into Mauritius in the 1900’s and for generations have been kept in captivity by private owners across the island. NONE of our animals are wild caught and are all Source D.

The Sanctuary looks after five different species of tortoises, however we mainly breed the Giant Aldabra Tortoise and the Astrochelys Radiata, both CITES registered. Each species are kept separately to prevent any possible transfer of disease. The tortoises are kept in habitat that are as close as possible to a natural and wild environment. They have greens that grow organically to graze on but also have fruits, vegetables and leaves that are pesticide free and grown on the property.

Our main priority has always been the welfare of these protected species. The Sanctuary has grown since its inception and we have been registered with CITES since the year 2000. We now are looking for genuine and reputable international clients to work with. All of our animals are micro-chipped before export and come with CITES papers.
